SLOW ART DAYS (SERIES IN PROGRESS)
In my drawings, I try to focus on the spaces in between—the uneventful moments that make up the majority of our time on earth—as well as the fleeting instances, which exist only in photographs, that serve as reference points for various periods in our lives. My source material ranges from images culled from newspapers, magazines, personal photos, found snapshots, and just about anywhere else time has been visually frozen. I incorporate words in to my drawings—sometimes extracted from newspaper captions, for example—and use them out of context in an effort to allow the viewer to make his or her own connection, construct his or her own context and ultimately arrive at a new meaning. I will sometimes arrange individual drawings together in a sequence to form a phrase, literally stitching them together with twine. It is my goal to inspire the viewer to form his or her own narrative from these otherwise unrelated moments.
